Although hedgehogs are a protected species in Britain their numbers are in decline so they need our help to thrive and they need care when they are damaged or sick. The British Hedgehog Preservation Society operates a national directory of Hedgehog Rescue and Rehabilitation Centres and we’re lucky that Vicky Greenwood, listed in the BHPS directory, lives locally in Dewsbury in Yorkshire.
Vicky trained (self-funded) as a Rehabilitator in October 2010 after she struggled to find help for a sick hedgehog she stumbled across. At any one time Vicky houses at least 50 sick or recovering hedgehogs but currently she’s caring for almost 100 (and remember, hedgehogs are nocturnal!) This is a full time occupation but nobody pays Vicky to do this or provides funding for her R&R centre. She relies on donations, fundraising, and the kindness of people who bring hedgehogs to her home.
Will you come and help Hedgehogs in Need?
Meet Vicky – and learn much more about hedgehogs (they’re interesting little critters!)
See baby hedgehogs close up, maybe for the first time?
Learn how we can make our gardens hedgehog friendly
Tombola, games, competitions – all with some really great prizes.
There’s a bran tub with prizes for children, a Craft Corner and we’ll be serving refreshments too.
If you can’t come you can still help by donating funds or prizes for our tombola?
