Hi Colin

I understand where you are coming from and I don't despute this. I also know that the money goes to local charities that this is why I mentioned a £1 donation for the under 3's. I also think that by increasing the age limit for the £2.50 admission fee is not going to affect your proceedings substantially. Thank you for looking into this and I look forward to hearing about the outcome for next years event.

hi again Amanda,
I got a response from Alan Shand, the main organiser - basically, he appreciates your concerns and will discuss them with the 'commitee' at their next meeting but it's too late to do anything about it this year.
He wanted to make it clear that all the organisation and help is done on a voluntary basis apart from the professional firework display, and the trade stalls who pay a fee to be there. All the proceeds from ticket sales, trade stall fees and 'village' food and drink sales go to the Village Hall trust and local Wakefield and Barnsley charities. Although there is plenty of room for people on the cricket field itself we are limited as to numbers by the amount of parking available - so although prices have been kept the same for the past 3 years there is a limit, by parking, on the number of people who can be accomodated.

I realise this doesn't directly satisfy your complaint but hope it explains 'where we are coming from'.

regards

I would just like to say that when purchasing tickets for me, my husband and my 22 month old child I was disgusted to find out that they were charging £2.50 for children 1 year and over. To me I think this is absolutely rediculous especially if you are a family of 4 or 5. I mean it wouldn't be so bad if there was a donation of a £1 for the under 3's but I think greed comes into mind as there is room for 100's on that playing field, plus food and drink that people will also be paying for. I think you need to re-review this situation and look at reducing the admission price on the under 3's as in this day and age not everybody has this kind of money and are being persecuted.

BURGLARY ATTEMPT ON GEORGE LANE - 21st January 2009

We suffered our 5th attempted burglary of the last 6 months yesterday afternoon at 12:15. The first three incidents resulted in thefts of several items from our stable block and occurred in the early hours. Thankfully our window cleaner disturbed yesterday's attempt. The thieves were driving a large Red Van, possibly an Iveco Daily (larger than a Ford Transit) with a false licence plate (VP05 SXJ).

Sadly, the only solution for us appears to be the erection of a large fence - albeit temporarily until we can afford a stone wall to prevent them wandering in at will and threatening with crow bars. Please be vigilant and report any large red vans acting suspiciously as the Police may then be able to do something.

As Vice-Chair of the Parish Council I’d like to welcome the creation of this website and thank Colin Bryant for his hard work in setting it up. The website is a great way for residents to advertise events in the parish to the wider community and I’d encourage all parishioners to make use of it.

A Happy Christmas and New Year to you all.
